Import export code

IMPORTER EXPORTER CODE NUMBER (IEC) is a registration required for persons importing or exporting goods and services from India. IE Code is issued by the Directorate General of Foreign Trade (DGFT), Ministry of Commerce and Industries, Government of India. IEC when issued can be used by the entity throughout its existence and doesn’t require any renewal or filing. IE code has lifetime validity. Importers are not allowed to proceed without this code and exporters can‟t take benefit of exports from DGFT, customs, Export Promotion Council, if they don‟t have this code. The IE Code must be quoted by importers while clearing customs. Also, banks require the importers IE Code while sending money
abroad. For exporters, IE Code must be quoted while sending shipments. Further, banks require the exporters IE Code while receiving money from abroad. Therefore, it is recommended for most organizations to obtain IEC, irrespective of if they need it at the moment.

DOCUMENTS REQUIRED FOR NEW IMPORTER EXPORTER CODE NUMBER (IEC):

  1. IN CASE OF COMPANY:
    • Copy of board resolution passed by the company for making application IEC Application.
    • Certified copy of Memorandum and article of association of the company.
    • Proof of registered office address of the company (i.e. form INC-22 along with challan paid + Copy of electricity
      bill + copy of rent agreement).
    • Certified copy of Present List of Directors
    • Self-certified copy of PAN (Permanent Account Number) of the Company
    • Self-certified copy of Address proof of authorised signatory of the Company. (i.e. voter card/Aadhar
      card/passport);
    • 02 passport size photographs of authorised signatory of the Company.
    • ) Copy of the cancelled cheque of the company on which name of the company must be printed.
  2. IN CASE OF PROPRIETORSHIP:
    • Self-certified copy of Address proof (i.e. voter card/Aadhar card/passport) of the proprietor;
    • Self-certified copy of PAN (Permanent Account Number) of the proprietor;
    • 02 passport size photographs of authorised signatory of the Company;
    • Copy of the cancelled cheque of the proprietorship on which name of the firm must be printed.
    • Digital signature certificate of the proprietor.
